When Should I Look for Wedding Suits?

When should you start looking for your wedding suits?

The simple answer is 6-12 months in advance of the wedding.

We always advise our clients to start looking early!  You may want visit various stores.  You may want to compare the quality of suits and the quality of customer services before making a decision on your chosen supplier.

You may also want to make decision on style and colour, so you can properly plan the rest of your wedding.  Which suit style will best fit for your wedding?  Which colours may you want to incorporate into your wedding suit?  Are you going to buy or hire? What do you need to consider in terms of budget?  All of these questions are best answered as early as possible in regards to planning your wedding and budgeting going forward.

We recommend to start visiting suppliers as far in advance as you can but not more than 12 months in advance.  Your tastes may change and fashions could change too.  New styles may appear for the new wedding season.

If you are getting married in the peak periods: Bank Holidays, August and September then start visiting suppliers 10/12 months in advance of the wedding.  For all other periods between 6 to 8 months is acceptable.

When should you book your weddings suits?

The simple answer is 3-10 months in advance of the wedding.

Once you have  visited a handful of suppliers, select the best product and service which your budget allows and reserve your suits.  If you are hiring this is essential.  Hire suits are limited in number and popular items can become booked up quite far in advance.   Fittings can always be done at a later date but it is essential to make a booking in advance to reserve your requirements.   If you decide to have a Made to Measure or Bespoke suit, you can leave the booking process until nearer to the wedding.  You do not want to book too early in case you change size, however different tailors will have different lead times for making your wedding suit, including various fittings.  Once you have chosen your tailor follow their instructions for when you should visit for fittings and place your booking.

When should you be fitted for your wedding suits?

The simple answer is 12-14 weeks in advance of the wedding.

If you are hiring wedding suits, it is best to book your fittings 12 weeks in advance of the wedding.  This allows enough time for any unforeseen issues with size and fit to be resolved, decreasing any stress closer to the wedding date.  If there are size changes nearer to the time (losing or putting on weight) these can be resolved a closer to the wedding date, but you will have reserved your suit and completed a fitting well ahead of time.

Having a suit made is slightly different as different tailors will have different lead times.  A fitting too early could lead to size changes later.  A fitting too late and the suit may not be complete in time.  Most tailors will offer a 10-14 week lead time, make sure you check with your tailor when your fittings should be completed and attend them in a timely fashion to avoid any last minute issues.
